Selfishness is the bane of society. Selfishness clouds understanding. Selfishness is petty-mindedness. Bhoga increases selfishness
and selfish Pravritti. It is the root cause for human sufferings. Real spiritual progress starts in selfless service. Serve the Sadhus, Sannyasins, Bhaktas and poor, sick persons with Bhava, Prema and Bhakti. The Lord is seated in the hearts of all. The spirit of service must deeply enter into your very bones, cells, tissues, nerves, etc. The reward is invaluable. Practise and feel the cosmic expansion and infinite Ananda. Tall talk and idle gossiping will not do, my dear friends! Evince intense zeal and enthusiasm in work. Be fiery in the spirit of service. Have Nishta with God and Cheshta with hands like the Bahurupi who has the Nishta of a male and the Cheshta of a female. You will be able to do two things at a time by practice.

The manual work will become automatic, mechanical or intuitive. You will have two minds. A portion of the mind will be at work; three quarters of the mind will be in the service of the Lord, in meditation, in Japa. Karma Yoga is generally combined with Bhakti Yoga. A Karma Yogin offers to the Lord as an oblation whatever he does through the Karma Indriyas. This is Ishvara Pranidhana.

Training For Karma Yoga A raw untrained aspirant feels, “My preceptor is treating me like a servant or a peon. He is using me for petty jobs.” He who has understood the right significance of Karma Yoga will take every work as Yogic activity or worship of the Lord. There is no menial work in his vision. Every work is Puja of Narayana. In the light of Karma Yoga all actions are sacred. That aspirant who always takes immense delight in doing works which are considered by the worldly man as menial services, and who always does willingly such acts only will become a dynamic Yogi. He will be absolutely free from conceit and egoism. He will have no downfall. The canker of pride cannot touch him.

Study the autobiography of Mahatma Gandhiji. He never makes any difference between menial service and dignified work. Scavenging and cleaning of the latrine is the highest Yoga for him. This is the highest Puja for him. He himself has done cleaning of latrines. He has annihilated this illusory little ‘I’ through service of various sorts. Many highly educated persons joined his Ashram for learning Yoga under him.

They thought that Gandhiji would teach them Yoga in some mysterious manner in a private room and would give lessons on Pranayama, meditation, abstraction, awakening Kundalini, etc. They were disappointed when they were asked to clean the latrine at first. They left the Ashram immediately. Gandhiji himself does repairing of his shoes. He himself used to grind flour and take upon his shoulders the work of others also when they were unable to do their allotted portion of work for the day in the Ashram. When an educated person, a new Ashramite, felt shy to do grinding work, Gandhiji himself would do his work in front of him and then the man would do the work himself from the next day willingly.

In the West cobblers and peasants have risen to a very great position in society. Every work is a respectable work for them. A boy applies polish to the boots in the streets of London for a penny, carries newspapers and journals in the afternoon for sale and works as an apprentice under a journalist during his leisure hours at night. He studies books, works hard, never wastes a minute and in a few years becomes a journalist of great repute and international fame. In Punjab some graduates have taken to hair-dressing work. They have understood the dignity of labour. 17

KARMA YOGA

A real Yogi does not make any difference between menial and respectable work. It is only an ignorant man who makes such a difference. Some aspirants are humble in the beginning of their spiritual career.

When they get some name and fame, some followers, admirers, devotees and disciples, they become victims to pride. They cannot do any service. They cannot carry anything on their heads or hands. That Yogi who carries the trunk on his head without the slightest feeling in the railway platform amidst a multitude of his admirers, disciples and devotees, without making any outward show of humility must be adored. Sage Jada Bharata carried the palanquin of King Rahugana on his shoulders without murmuring. Lord Krishna shampooed the legs of a Raja when his barber devotee was on leave.

Sri Rama carried a pot of water for the ablution of one of his devotees. Sri Krishna took the form of a menial servant as Vithoo and paid the money to the Nawab on behalf of his devotee, Dhamaji. If you really want to grow in the spiritual path you must do all sorts of service daily till the end of life. Then only you are safe. Do not stop doing service when you have become a famous Yogi. The spirit of service must enter every nerve, cell, tissue and bone of your body. It must be ingrained in you. Then only you will become a real, full-blown practical Vedantin. Is there any greater Vedantin or Karma Yogin than Lord Buddha? He still lives in our hearts, because the spirit of service was ingrained in him and he spent his whole life in serving others in various ways. You can also become a Buddha if you apply yourself diligently to selfless service with the right mental attitude.

Attain Nirlipta State Lord Krishna says in His Gita: “Tasmat sarveshu kaleshu mam anusmara yudhyacha—Therefore, at all times think of Me and fight.” Give the mind to God and the hand to work. The typist works at the machine and talks with his friends. The player on the harmonium plays on the organ and talks and jokes with his friends; the lady knits and talks with her comrades. The mind of the girl who has a water pot on her head is on the water pot, though she is talking and joking with her companions while she is walking on the road. A nurse while she is nursing the baby of another lady has her mind rivetted on her own baby.Acowherd while he is looking after the cows of other people has his mind fixed on his own cow. Even so, have your mind fixed at the lotus feet of the Lord, while you are doing your household duties and office work. You will realise Self-consciousness quickly. Just as the water remains unaffected in the lotus leaf, just as the oil floats upon the surface of the water without being affected in any way, so also you should remain in the world amidst pleasures and difficulties. Just as the tongue is not affected by taking ghee, so also you should remain unaffected even amidst worldly activities and troubles. You must keep up the Nirlipta state.

This is Jnana. This is balance (Samata). You may fail to keep the balance and Nirlipta state a thousand and one times. But in the long run you are bound to succeed if you persist in your practice and if you discipline the mind properly. Every failure is a pillar for future success. Remember this point well. A Karma Yogin should not expect even return of love, appreciation, gratitude, admiration from the people whom he is serving. 18 YOGA IN DAILY LIFE Only he who has reduced his wants and controlled the Indriyas can do Karma Yoga.

How can a luxurious man with revolting Indriyas serve others? He wants everything for himself and wants to exploit and domineer others. Another qualification is that you must be balanced in success or failure, gain or loss, victory or defeat. You must be free from Raga and Dvesha. “An action which is ordained, done by one undesirous of fruit, devoid of attachment, without love or hate, that is called pure.” (Gita XVIII-23) What Is Karma Karma means work or action. According to Jaimini, rituals like Agnihotra, Yajnas, etc., are termed Karmas. There is a hidden power in Karma termed Adrishta which brings in fruits of Karmas for the individual. Karma is all for Jaimini. Karma is everything for a student of Mimamsic school of thought. Jaimini is the founder of Purva Mimamsa. He was student of Maharishi Vyasa, the founder of Uttara Mimamsa or Vedanta. The Mimamsa school deny the existence of Ishvara who awards the fruits of works. According to the Gita, any action is Karma. Charity, sacrifice, Tapas are all Karmas.

In a philosophical sense, breathing, seeing, hearing, tasting, feeling, smelling, walking, talking, etc., are all Karma. Thinking is the real Karma. Raga-Dvesha constitute the real Karma. How To Find Right Or Wrong Action Have right thinking. Use your reason and commonsense. Follow the injunctions of the Sashtras. Consult the code of Manu or Yajnavalkya Smriti whenever you have doubts. You will be able to find out whether you are doing right or wrong action. If you say, “Sastras are countless. They are like the ocean. I can hardly understand the truths that are inculcated. I cannot fathom and gauge their depths. There are contradictions. I ampuzzled and bewildered.” Then strictly follow the words of a Guru on whom you have absolute faith and confidence. The third way is: Have fear in God. Consult your conscience.

The shrill, inner voice will guide you. As soon as you hear the voice, do not delay even a moment. Start the action diligently without consulting anybody. Practise to hear the inner voice in the morning at 4 a.m. If there is fear, shame, or pricking of conscience, know that you are doing a wrong action. If there is joy, exhilaration or satisfaction understand that you are doing right action. Inner Voice When the diverse, confining sheaths of Atman have been dissolved by Sadhana, when the different Vrittis of the mind have been controlled by mental drill or gymnastics, when the conscious mind is not active, you enter the realm of spirit life, the superconscious mind where Buddhi and pure reason and intuition, the faculty of direct cognition of Truth manifest.

You pass into the kingdom of peace where there is none to speak, you will hear the voice of God which is very clear and pure and has an upward tendency. Listen to the voice with attention and interest. It will guide you. It is the voice of God. For A Karma-Yogin (By Sri Sankaracharya) Atma tvam girija matih sahachara pranah sareeram griham Puja te vishayopa bhoga rachana nidra samadhi sthitih Sancharah padayoh pradakshina vidhih stotrani sarvagiro; Yadyat karma karomi tat tat akhilam Shambho tavaradhanam. Repeat the Sloka at the end of your meditation.

“Thou art Atma; Buddhi is Thy consort, Parvathi (who is born of mountain); the Pranas are Thy attendants; this body is Thy house; the action of sensual enjoyment is Thy worship; deep sleep is the establishment of Samadhi; walking by my feet is the perambulation around Thee; all my speeches are Thy praise; whatever actions I perform, are all Thy worship; Oh Shambhu!”

From - Yoga in daily Life

KARMA YOGA - Part 1

Half-hearted service is no service at all. Give your whole heart, mind and soul when you serve. This is very important when you practise Karma Yoga. Some people have their body in one place, mind in another place, and soul in another place. This is the reason why they do not realise any substantial progress in the path. Forget not the goal of life amidst selfish activities. The goal of life is Self-realisation. Are you attempting to reach the end and aim of life? Are you doing Japa, Pranayama and Meditation? Have you kept up the ideal before the mind’s eye? That day in which you do not practise any spiritual Sadhana is wasted.

Give the mind to God and the hand to work. You will have to analyse and scrutinise your motives. It is the selfish motive and not the work itself that binds a man to Samsara. Prepare the mind for Karma Yoga. Mere selfish work cannot be taken as Yogic activity. The mind is so framed that it always expects something for a small piece of work. When you smile you expect a return of smile from your friend.

When you raise your hand in salutation, you expect a salute from other people. Even when you give a cup of water to another man, you expect him to be grateful to you. When such is the case how can you perform Nishkama Karma Yoga? Life is very precious. Live in the spirit of the Gita’s teaching and work without expectation of fruits and egoism. Think you are Nimitta in the hands of Lord Narayana. If you work with this mental attitude you will become a Yogi soon. Work never degrades a man. Unselfish work is Puja of Narayana.

Work is worship. All works are sacred. There is no menial work from the highest view point, from the view point of the absolute, from the view point of Karma Yoga. Even scavenging when done with the right spirit and mental attitude is Yogic action. Even a scavenger can realise God in his own station of life by service. The famous butcher Dharma Vyadha of Mahabharata realised God in his meat shop (through serving his parents).

You all have got inside all materials for wisdom. There is a vast magazine of power and knowledge within you. It wants kindling. Now wake up, Oh Saumya! When you work disinterestedly without any agency and when you surrender the works and fruits as Ishvararpana, all Karmas are transformed into Yogic Kriyas. Walking, eating, sleeping, answering the calls of nature, talking, etc., become offering unto the Lord. Every bit of work is
. Think that Lord Siva is working through your hands, and is eating through your mouth. Think that your hands are the hands of Lord Siva.

In the beginning some of your actions may be selfish and some may be unselfish. In the long run you can do all actions in an unselfish manner. Scrutinise your motives always. This is the keynote for Nishkamya Karma Yoga. Every act can be spiritualised when the motive becomes pure. Work is meditation. Serve everyone with intense love without any idea of agency without expectation of fruits or reward. If you adopt the path of Jnana, feel you are a silent Sakshi and the Prakriti does everything.

From - Yoga in daily Life

Serpentine Power is called Kundalini-Sakti - Part 1

The Serpentine Power is called Kundalini-Sakti on account of its spiral-like working in the
body of the Yogi developing the power in himself. It is an electric fiery occult power, the mighty
pristine force underlying all organic and inorganic matter. The Yoga which treats of this
Kundalini-Sakti is called Kundalini-Yoga.35
Kundalini is the Divine Cosmic Energy in bodies. Siddhi or perfection in Yoga is achieved by arousing this Supreme Force which is lying dormant in the Muladhara Chakra at the base of the spinal column in the form of a serpent with 3 1/2 coils. That Yogi in whom the Kundalini is awakened and taken towards the top of the head is the real King of kings or Emperor of emperors. He has all divine powers. All Siddhis and Riddhis (minor powers) roll under his feet. He can command Nature. He can command the five elements. His glory is indescribable.
Before proceeding to know something about the Chakras and the Kundalini-Sakti it is
essential to know something about the spinal column and the Nadis or nerve-currents. The spinal column is called Meru-danda, and it extends from the Kanda (situated between the anus and the root of the reproductory organ) to the base of the skull. There are two Nadis on either side of the spinal column called Ida and Pingala, and between these two runs a hollow canal called Sushumna at the lower extremity of which lies the Kundalini-Sakti sleeping a trance-sleep (Yoga Nidra). Ida starts from the right testicle and Pingala from the left, and they both meet the Sushumna at the Muladhara Chakra. Ida flows through the left nostril and Pingala through the right. Ida is cooling, while Pingala is heating. Sushumna which originates at the Muladhara Chakra runs right up to the top of the head. Ida and Pingala indicate time; Sushumna is the devourer of time. When the Prana flows through the Sushumna, “the most highly beloved of the Yogins”, the mind becomes quite steady. The Yogi defies death by devitalising Ida and Pingala and taking the Prana through the Sushumna to the crown of the head or Brahmarandhra (Seat of Brahman). When the Kundalini is awakened, it forces its way through the Sushumna, and its progress is characterized by supernatural visions, acquisition of various special powers, knowledge, peace and bliss. When the Kundalini is taken to the Sahasrara Chakra (at the top of the head). The Yogi enjoys Supreme Bliss.
From - SRI SWAMI SIVANANDA

Kundalini Yoga Information | Benefits of Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini yoga is considered the most powerful form of yoga. Kundalini yoga comes from the Sanskrit word kundal, which means the lock of the hair from the beloved. The hair symbolizes the unlimited potential inside each individual.

Basic Idea behind Kundalini Yoga

In Kundalini Yoga the creating and sustaining Sakti of the entire body is in fact and truly united with Lord Siva. It uses asanas, pranayama, and mantra. It is based upon Kundalini energy which is “one’s dormant spiritual energy.”

This energy is symbolized as a coiled up snake at the base of the spine, which is the first chakra. The energy is released through breathing, chanting, and movement in order that you can recognize your full potential.

It brings together the masculine and feminine powers of the body. The goal of Kundalini yoga is to move the Kundalini energy up through all seven chakras. When you reach the seventh chakra you experience enlightenment.
Benefits of Kundalini Yoga

* Balancing of emotions
* Strengthening of the nervous system
* Increases energy level
* Enlivens sense of awareness
* Encourages sense of peace
* Brings clarity to the mind
* Stress reduction
* Strengthens the immune system
* Increases lung capacity for better breathing
* Supports and encourages personal transformation and growth
* Orients consciousness to create happiness and health

Kundalini yoga is not only useful in strengthening the health and well-being of the physical body, but also very useful for emotional balance, stress relif, mental clarity, and personal transformation. Kundalini can be awakened by various means and these different methods are called by different names, viz., Raja Yoga, Hatha Yoga, etc.

Chakras

A yoga practitioner should know something about the spinal column, which is the location of five of the seven chakras, or energy centers to practice Kundalini yoga. We all know that the spinal column is part of the human nervous system, which also includes the brain and nerves.

These things jointly are responsible for our thought, imagination, memory, and intelligence. Five of the seven chakras are situated alongside the spinal column and the remaining two chakras are situated on the head one in the middle and one on the top.

A person can visualize the Kundalini energy traveling up the spine as he or she breathes. This energy begins and ends with that individual. It is the awakening of the self. Often a person will feel warmth along the chakras, when an individual awaken the Kundalini energy. Others have reported they feel a tingling sensation.

Kundalini yoga includes a set of postures and exercises that work on a particular area of the body, mind, and spirit. There are hundreds of these sets, which can be used to awaken a yoga practitioner to his or her full potential.

These postures deal with each aspect of human nature right from the issues of physical health to issues of mental health to general well being.

Yoga practitioner enters a state of deep relaxation often accompanied by spiritual music and sometimes a gong after the completion of the sets. Lastly, the yoga practitioner of kundalini yoga ends up with a breath or mantra meditation.

Article Source: http://www.upublish.info

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga
The Be All And End All Of All Yoga Forms
If you have life energy within, then it is possible for you to get maximum benefit and well as meditation. It is the power of the Divine as embodied in the Mother. Kundalini yoga is a form of yoga that requires a lot of care and you should ensure that you practice it under the tutelage of a teacher; otherwise it could be problematic.
Concentrate On the Heart Center

According to the learned teachers of Kundalini yoga, you need to concentrate on the heart center so that you can enjoy the beauty and strength of being one, and experience pure joy. In the heart center lays significant purity which can be harnessed in order to illume the lower and other centers. It means having to concentrate your entire being on one center of energy and to also invoke the main deity of that center.

If you want to experience the rich benefits of Kundalini yoga you need to get complete control over your thoughts and you must focus on a single point and place all your concentration on your spiritual practice. You won’t have the opportunity of taking short cuts and thus you need to develop a discipline of the spirit as well as properly master how to concentrate the self.

The practice of Kundalini yoga will help in developing psychic powers which may either be put to a positive or negative use, and it is often prone to being misused. It is not uncommon for a person to use the immense powers of Kundalini yoga to bolster the ego instead of putting it to proper use. You must also be completely sincere in your practice of Kundalini yoga and there should be no deviation from the proper path.

It is purity as well as love that you should seek and more particularly Divine Love pertaining to the Mother. There is no place for experiencing worldly pleasures and one must give ones all to the practice of Kundalini yoga.

Unique Yoga Form

There is however scope for choosing other paths as well that are not so difficult as Kundalini yoga is not the only path to follow. It is however, striving for unity through the path of bringing alive the psychic forces, and thus Kundalini yoga is also thought of as being the be all and end all of all forms of yoga. Even though, from a cursory glimpse of it, you may think that it is the same as Hatha yoga; there is however importance laid on mantras and meditation as it is really quite unique.

About the Author
Ann Marier writes informative articles on general health issues providing helpful tips and advice. If you are interested in starting a yoga class you need to know what choices you have. If you haven't heard about Kundalini Yoga before that is because it hasn't been very popular. But Yogi Bhajan thought that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy this kind of yoga. So he created 3H0, which stands for Healthy, Happy, and Holy Organization. Until 1969 it had primarily been practiced in the west.

The purpose of Kundalini Yoga is to reach the untouched energy that is located at the base of the spine. With Kundalini Yoga the energy should be drawn up through the body and causes a positive effect. If this happens you are to experience full enlightment.

The main focus in Kundalini Yoga is breathing. With each Kundalini Yoga session and with specific breathing techniques your body will move the energy that is buried within up to the surface and allowing to flow. To begin Kundalini Yoga you will perform a warm up stretch that will improve the flexibility. Next you will focus on an area of the body and begin meditation. You will also chant mantra, prananyama, and mudras as well. Those who practice Kundalini Yoga have their own formal attire which consists of white robes and a head wrap.

If you are considering Kundalini Yoga you need to know that this type of yoga is the most spiritual type of yoga performed. It offers an upper level of mental and physical challenges. You need to be focused on Kundalini Yoga if you choose to try it. It will take skill as you use rapid and consistent movements while breathing in a certain way. You may experience a sudden burst of energy afterward but if you feel tired don't give up. Keep going back to your Kundalini Yoga class and you will feel the affects soon.

Written by Karlise Amerson. Kundalini yoga isn't just another practice, however. It's often referred to as the mother of all yoga, and said to be one of the most powerful forms.
What's more, Kundalini yoga is a little different from other practices. Most forms of yoga concentrate on the body's poses, combined with breathing and meditation exercises. While Kundalini yoga still concerns itself with forms and poses, it places much more emphasis on breathing, chanting, and releasing a special energy we all possess unawares.

In Kundalini yoga, the special energy is likened to a powerful serpent lying asleep at the base of the spine. But practitioners can awaken the powerful serpent with the use of Kundalini techniques, releasing almost unimaginable energy.

How It’s Done

In Kundalini yoga, you'll combine classic poses, meditation, chanting or mantras, and also coordinate your breath and movement. In this yoga, the serpent that represents energy is said to lie asleep at the base of your spine, coiled and dormant. Specifically, this region is located in the perineum area of the body. That is, it lies between the rectum and the testicles in males, and between the vagina and the clitoris in females. When awakened, the dormant masculine energy (Siva) and feminine energy (Sakti) unite to create a powerful surge unlike anything you're likely to have experienced before.

What Can It Do For Me?

The powerful energy released by Kundalini yoga is said to do many things for the body. And yet, although it can help you physically, its primary benefits are spiritual. All the intangible energies that help to shape our lives are affected by Kundalini yoga, such as divine prosperity, and freedom from judgment. Once freed, this new energy helps to promote creativity and unconditional love. Needless to say, all these positive changes help sweep away any negative feelings, such as those associated with depression, or even long-standing resentments or jealousy.

If you would like to experience this type of amazing yoga, you’ll want professional guidance. Understanding more about how Kundalini works will help you achieve the results you seek, so a little private time with the books can help you as well. As with any yoga, it's best to learn Kundalini from an experienced instructor, who can help you focus your energy in addition to teaching you the techniques. Having an awakened yogi nearby can be half the battle.

Article Source: http://www.isnare.com/?aid=24690&ca=Wellness%2C+Fitness+and+Diet

The True Nature of Super Power Kundalini

What exactly is this Divine Serpent Power or Kundalini? With reference to this scriptural scholars and great seers / saints, on the basis of their experiences have put forth many precepts. In the Jnanarnava Tantra (Indian scripture) Kundalini is described as the Mother of the world and a divine energy that controls this world. World activities take place with tortuous preludes. The movements of atoms, stars, galaxies, planets etc. are rotational and revolutional. All our thoughts, words etc. start at a certain point in space and after traveling to a certain far off place, it returns to its original point. This cycle of movement is one of the 4 weapons of God. It is also called the transformational process of Lord Mahakal. It is this that induces movement in a living being like a ball of mud. Just as a potter makes various articles from mud/clay, so too it plays the role of raising and throwing down the state of our soul. The Divine Serpent Power generates energy in macro form as far as the cosmos is concerned and micro as far as an individual living being is concerned.

In spiritual literature, especially the Indian Upanishads, Kundalini or the Divine Serpent Power is discussed a great deal. But one should not think that only this description is total. Because beyond this there is a lot more that needs to be researched into, spoken about and understood deeply. We must keep an open mind so as to understand more deeply, the results of conjoining these incomplete theories.

In the Kathopanishad the dialogue between Yama-Nachiketa revolves around the Panchagni Vidya or the 5-fold science of fire. This can be correlated to the 5-fold description of the Divine Serpent Power. In the Shwetashwatar Upanishad it is called the Fire of Yoga. In the Yoga Pradeepika it is called Spirit of Fire. Scholars of Tantra like John Woodroffe call it Serpentine Fire.

Madam Blavatsky called it Cosmic Electricity. She described it as a conscious flow of energy akin to cosmic electricity. In her book “Voice of Silence” she says –

It is called Kundalini or Divine Serpent Power because it moves like a snake. A Yogic seeker imbibes the ordinary movement as cyclic in his body and as a result of this practice his individual energy augments greatly. This Kundalini which is an electrical fire power, is hidden. It is that natural energy which is present in the substratum of all creatures and objects of the cosmos.

Under today’s modern circumstances our past prejudice can only be mocked at. Similarly if we look upon today’s achievements as the ultimate truth, we are definitely going to obstruct the path of further research and progress. Because of a prejudiced standpoint, one thinks materialism to be the ultimate truth. In fact material scientists allude to the existence of consciousness to a mere material manifestation. While walking on the path of progress, scientists are now experiencing the independent existence of consciousness. They are being known to accept that its potential and power supercedes the potency of material objects.

In recent years no doubt the divine existence of Kundalini Power has been accepted yet in the scientific arena there are some scientists who describe it as a form of one’s bodily potential. Anatomists call it the nervous force that emanates from the nervous system. Dr. Rele in his most talked about book “Mysterious Kundalini” calls it the “vagus nerve”. He further says that when its potency, that controls the muscles and nervous system, works in spiritual tasks, it becomes the Divine Serpent Power. According to him when one gets control of this power, one can control one’s voluntary and involuntary bodily movements as per one’s desire. This self-control is indeed a very great feat. Thus it means that we can mould our psyche and thus our destiny/future too. He sings praises of Kundalini from this standpoint and advises one and all to activate this Divine Serpent Power so as to make apt use of it.

The Introductory note of Dr. Rele’s “Mysterious Kundalini” has been written by the Tantra expert Sir John Woodroffe. Over there Sir Woodroffe has disagreed with Dr. Rele’s observation which opines that Kundalini is merely on electrical flow of the physical bodily centre. Sir John agrees that “It is a grand potential i.e. it is a conscious and a divinely powerful energy and that it can never be compared to any material object or flow. According to him the nervous force is merely a gross aspect of the Divine Serpent Power and is not a creation of the nervous center. It is neither material in nature nor is it a mental force. In fact it is Kundalini that creates the above two. It works as a combined flow of static reality, dynamic reality and residual power. In an individual’s consciousness, it lies in a latent state. He/She who activates Kundalini with intense effort becomes endowed with a very special power.”

In scientific terms Kundalini is called life force or electromagnetism. Its center is said to be the brain. Even then the mystery of how the brain gets the capacity of executing various intellectual tasks has yet not unfolded. But Yogic texts answer this question by pointing towards the power of desire (Kama Shakti). They further say that it is this center that gives an opportunity to the unmanifested human existence, to manifest in a human body. It gives required inspiration to the various functions of the desire center. It is that magnetic crystal that creates a substratum for the working of the transistor in the form of the human body. The chance to manifest sexual (desire) power is attained via the medium of the genitals. Hence the Mooladhar Chakra (plexus) present in this region is called the center of the Divine Serpent Power or Kundalini. In short it is called Kund (pyre).

Hathyoga specialists have correlated it to the “Kand” present in the depth of the bladder region and say that it is egg shaped. Many have tried to correlate it to either the muscles of the body or the genitals or the male endocrine glands. Others opine that the mouth source of Kundalini is the covering of the triangular region at the base of our spinal cord. Another scholar says “Ganglion Impar” is where one can find Kundalini. It is because of such deluded beliefs that bodily exercises, postures, Bandha, Mudra etc. are correlated to activation of the Divine Serpent Power. That energy, which manifests due to incitement of the nerve centers, shows its potential only for a very short time span. In comparison to this the Divine Serpent Power is eternal. Hence under such circumstances it is vain to call it muscular or nervous energy.

Kundalini is conscious energy. It can also be seen to work as life force, as the urge to live and also works in our body and psyches. The centers beyond this lie in a latent state. No doubt it is electrical energy yet it cannot be compared to the material electricity that is generated from batteries, dynamos, generators etc. When with the help of Kundalini the soul nature can be transformed like Kayakalps (bodily transformation), it cannot be called a material power. This Divine Serpent Power which plays an extraordinary role in uniting the individual soul (Creature) with the cosmic soul (God), which augments our bliss and zeal and which manifests miraculous powers, can be never be called material. Hence in short Kundalini is definitely a soul force and hence spiritual.

Another name of Kundalini is Fire of Life. It is the influence of this fire that manifests brilliance, radiance, hope, enthusiasm, zest, zeal etc. This Fire of Life pervades every atom of the cosmos. When it works in inert objects, it is called Apara Prakriti in spiritual terms. It is due to this that objects are created, propagated and transformed. Another form of Fire of Life is Para Prakriti. It is said to be the experience of all creatures. It encompasses the intellect, discrimination (Vivek), desire, knowledge, emotions etc. By making the unconscious mind its center, Para Prakriti controls the movements of the body, mind and inner nature.

The aim of the science of spiritual practices is to help conjoin an individual’s emotional “Fire of Life” with that cosmic sentimental consciousness and thus attain benefits that accrue out of such close proximity. A small machine makes itself powerful by joining one of its wires to the huge powerhouse of electricity. It is only when a wet/cold bar of wood comes in close proximity with a blazing fire, that it itself takes the form of brilliant fire.

The more intense is the bond built between the individual Fire of Life and God, to that extent divinity will manifest in a human being. Brahmavarchas or soul force is that special quality attained, due to building a bond with God via spiritual practices. It is different from the fleeting powers attained by living an ordinary material life. This soul force can be seen as radiance, power and importance of one’s inner personality. When this soul force manifests in one’s daily actions, such a person is called a seer, sage, Rishi, philosopher, superman etc. Sometimes their worldly actions are so out of this world, that it is termed a miracle by the ordinary layman.

The macro form of Fire of Life is called God Fire in spiritual terms and in its individual, micro form it is called soul or Fire of Life. The divine principle is described as Spiritual Science and science of living beings is described as soul science. Both these forces i.e. material and spiritual manifest from one single energy flow. Yet in order to understand their natures, it is classified into 2 aspects from the standpoint of analysis and experience. Electricity is one single principle. Based on cosmic laws its generation, union and separation take place. Thus it is called positive or negative. In the same way the Fire of Life from the macro standpoint is called Para and Apara and from the micro standpoint is called God and individual soul. All that is taking place, all that has already taken place and all that will take place in future comes within its jurisdiction.

In an individual’s life i.e. within the human body the center of Para Prakriti or the conscious flow is the Brahmarandhra (central area of the brain) and is called the Sahasrar Kamal (1000-petalled lotus). It is also called Shiva, the Lord of Kailash or Vishnu who sleeps on Shesha Serpent or Kalagni. Another center is in the cave of the genitals. It is called the center of Apara Prakriti. It is also called Shakti, Parvati and the Fire of Life viz. Kundalini.

Both of them can also be called positive and negative electricity. The human body is called a small / micro sample of the macro visible cosmos. All types of forces present in this cosmos exist in the human body. Just as on the basis of scientific experiments and technology one can benefit from electrical, ethereal etc. forces, in the same way via Yogic scientific practices one can manifest intense energies of Apara Prakriti present in the human body. All this can be seen as divine / miraculous acts of great Yogis. All these miraculous Sidhis (divine powers) generated via spiritual practices (Sadhana) must be accepted as advancement of the bodily Apara Prakriti. The root of the fount of divine energy is situated in the “Kand” region of the human genital organs and is none other than Kundalini or the Divine Serpent Power.

In the same way special qualities like pious acts, nature, viewpoint, discrimination, radiance, will power, soul force etc. seen in one’s personality, are nothing but attainment of sensitive emotions from the conscious principle. Its central point is the Sahasrar Kamal (1000 – petalled lotus) of the wisdom center of the brain. Over here dwells Kalagni in the form of Shiva. So far 2 benefits of soul wisdom have been listed i.e. 1) the conscious brilliance of one’s emotions 2) extraordinary activities executed by the human body. These are also called Vibhootis or Sidhis (divine glories). These Vibhootis emanate from the brain center or the wisdom center i.e. divine sentiments. Sidhis emanate from the sexual center i.e. the Kund Kundalini or the energy fountain. Both these energy centers should be looked upon as the 2 poles of human existence. Our planet Earth has 2 poles i.e. the North Pole and the South Pole. In the same way man’s brain center is called the North Pole and the genital center is called the South Pole. The science of attaining knowledge regarding the above 2 centres and utilizing its power in the internal and external area of life’s advancement in an apt manner is called Kundalini Science. There can be varied forms, means and paths of spiritual practices (Sadhana) yet they should be understood as differences only at the external symbolic level. The aim of all spiritual practices is the same as seen in Kundalini worship. The aim of wearing clothes is to protect the body from weather changes. In this world clothes of many designs are produced for this aim only. Hence it is form this standpoint that we should understand the most accepted spiritual beliefs and practices of various religious sects of the world. Although externally/superficially they seem different, their fundamental aim is the same. In Indian Spiritual Philosophy, this science has been put forth without adding any unwanted paraphernalia. It has been put forth in a very straightforward manner by diving deep into its fundamental roots. Thus it is easier to understand it and thus attain the goal of all human lives in a relatively facile manner.

The presiding deity of the soul force viz. Kundalini or Divine Serpent Power which can help a living being to imbibe divine powers of Lord of the Cosmos (God), has been described as follows :-

“Kundalini, the presiding deity of divine energy sleeps like a female serpent in a coil of 3 ½ rounds in the Mooladhar Chakra. As long as Kundalini sleeps, man behaves like a beast. Man makes many material efforts yet he remains animal like because his Kundalini is yet sleeping. If one’s presiding energy is sleeping (inactive), one’s world too is sleeping. But the day this Kundalini awakens, one’s world too awakens.”

- MAHAYOG VIJNAN

“Via Yogic practices one can attain that Kundalini which shines like lightning, which is the mother of the 5 elements and the 5 Vital Forces, which is the supreme conscious energy and power of action.”

“In the Mooladhar Chakra lies the snake-like Divine Serpent Power and it shines brilliantly like a flame. Over there dwells a living being. If a person’s Kundalini energy gets activated, know for sure that he is indeed very blessed.”

- Gherand Samhita (6/16/18)

“This Kundalini energy is like a sleeping female snake. It is movement, light and speech manifest. It is the energy of Lord Vishnu. It shines brilliantly like the golden sun.”

- SHIV SAMHITA

The Kundalini energy sleeps like a female snake around a self-existent linga of Lord Shiva with a 3 ½ rounded coil. This comparison tells us that Kundalini has all those 3 capabilities, which are the fundamental causes of advancement of human existence. On the basis of hopes, thinking, activities and spiritual endeavour, every human being marches ahead with success and thus experiences joy. The seeds of all these 3 are present in the deep recess of the Divine Serpent Power. On advancing all these, the 3 skills bloom forth from within. Thus on attaining the external means, it gets a chance of making it more advanced. But if the inner potential is inactive, external endeavour for progress never succeeds. The 3 legs of Gayatri are the 3 rounds of the snake-like Kundalini. It is said to be the root potential of human existence –

“This Kundalini super energy is immovable nature and divine speech. It is none other than God.”

- PRAYANTRASARA TANTRA

“The nature of the 3 mystic words is Bhuha – desire power, Bhuvaha – action power, Svaha – wisdom power.”

“This Divine Serpent Power is pervaded with emotional bliss. When it is activated, man is filled up with so much emotional bliss that it is like the bucket of leather overflowing with water. Because this bliss evolves many skills, it makes one’s life blissful.

- YOGA VASISHTHA

“When radiance manifest Kundalini awakens, it lends brilliance to the powers of desire / wisdom / action. One can see its influence on the entire body. The latent world of Mantra gets activated. The cosmic wisdom awakens fully. Kundalini that transforms the entire world, makes a spiritual seeker extremely powerful.”

- MAHAYOG VIJNAN

“It is said that there are 3 powers viz. Sattvik wisdom power, Rajasik action power and Tamasik material power.”

- DEVI BHAGWAT

“Wisdom, desire and action are all symbols of power. They are called Mahasaraswati, Mahakali and Mahalakshmi.”

“Some call me the divine energy of penance. Some call me inert. Some call me knowledge, some Maya and others Mother Nature. But I am Supreme Love and Bliss.”

- DEVI BHAGWAT

“It is I who give the path to demi-gods and human beings, so as to achieve the desired goal. He, who worships my discrimination power so as to please me, is made extremely radiant by me. I make them Brahmins, Rishis and great seeers.”

- Rig Ved (10/25/5)

In spiritual terms spiritual ignorance means to be totally unaware of the divine potential within our body. When this ignorance is destroyed, we call it divine wisdom or realization of the self (soul). The highest achievement for a human being is to activate that which is inactive and to search for that which one has apparently lost. Soul based endeavour is said to be the supreme endevaour. As against this ordinary efforts can only give you transient wealth, bodily might and material pleasures. All these are fleeting and in fact as soon as you attain them, you desire more of them. But when you gain soul force you are led to higher and higher steps of divine grace. They are eternal and give total satiation. Not only does a person benefit individually but that he influences others too, to attain their spiritual goal. Thus keeping in mind all the above facts, spiritual endeavour is to said to be the supreme endeavour.

A sleeping man lies inactive and seems dead. But when he awakens all his prowess too gets activated & it is true for the vital force energy or Kundalini. If a person’s inner power is latent, know for sure that spiritually he is sleeping. When a person’s inner soul awakens, one can see him act greatly in the world.

In order to awaken the sleeping Divine Serpent Power in the body, one has to take recourse to Gayatri spiritual practices. Those who take up this marathon task of awakening the Kundalini energy, attain pinnacles of material and spiritual heights.

AUTHOR: Shriram Sharma Acharya, founder of the International Gayatri Family, was a great Yogi, seer and incarnation of God who wrote volumes of scientific literature mainly on spiritual subjects for world welfare and peace.

For more scientific e-books visit: http://www.shriramsharma.com/

DESCRIPTION: Three free e-books on Indian Gayatri Science, Kundalini Yoga & Biography correlated to Neurosciences-ESP, Endocrinology, Anatomy, Physiology, Psychology & Sociology for 1) material & spiritual prosperity & 2) uniting the world peacefully as one family. Kundalini yoga is the energy that gives us life the same energy that gives life to the universe. Kundalini yoga is represented as a "coiled serpent" in the chakra at the base of the spine in each human the serpentine divinity who sleeps within each individual until awakened. The three coils of the serpent represent prana kundalini (the energy that gives the physical body life), chitta kundalini (the energy of our mind/emotions), and para kundalini (the energy of our spiritual self). As the energy that lies dormant in each person is released, it moves up the spine, activating the psychic mechanism. Deeper awareness and consciousness is experienced in the unfolding of and flow between those chakras.

Kundalini yoga is the rising of the kundalini, piercing and releasing the awareness within each chakra that cuts through our tensions, blocks, ignorance, and ego. Ultimately, the kundalini moves up through all of the major chakras and rests in the chakra at the top of head, called the sahasrara chakra. This is the Sacred Space where we become completely aware of our total unity with the Divine. Shaktipat means the descent of grace, or transmission of energy, and it is a vitally important presence in the awakening of the kundalini and Shaktipat can be received from the teacher in four primary ways through look, touch, thought, and word. In the Tantric tradition shaktipat is understood to be the highest form of spiritual initiation, providing the initiate with immediate access to the divine energy dwelling within.

Kundalini yoga is the fire that ignites and sustains the release and rising of the kundalini. Shaktipat activates the process through which a human being recognizes the intrinsic unbounded love that already dwells within their own heart. It is that love that ultimately reveals the secrets of our existence and our experience of the unity in all of life. Kundalini is the energy of life, or the Divine, as it is experienced in the individual.

Written By:-Prabakar, S
Article Source:http://www.articlealley.com/article_572079_17.html

Kundalini Yoga - A Divine Energy

Tantric yogis believe that it is the nuclear energy of the human psycho physical system. It is comparable to the nuclear energy of the atom. The atomic energy is released through bombardment of the atomic nucleus with high-voltage alpha particles. Likewise, the psycho nuclear energy of man is released through high pressure of the concentrated bio psychic energy mobilized by mental focusing. While the pressure of the bio psychic energy is a tremendous push sideways, the pressure of though energy is like a magnetic pull from above. The dynamic interplay of these two forces produces the following results:

1. Transformation of the sexual libido (retas) into the subtler and luminous ego-transcending or trans personal Being-energy (ojas).

2. Awakening of the psycho nuclear energy and its appropriation of the newly generated valve-energy (ojas) resulting in upward movement along the central canal (sushumna) of the spinal cord.

3. Considerable withdrawal of energy from the vital organs, efferent nerves and externally oriented musculature.

4. Gradual opening or activation of the various energy centers and associated glands of the body resulting in the exploration of the higher levels of consciousness as the regular practice of meditation continues from day to day, from month to month, from year to year.

The tantric philosophy of India is in agreement with modern science that there is, in ultimate analysis, only one stuff of all existence, and that is energy. The primordial energy is known as mahashakti. According to Vedanta, the superconscient divine energy is experienced by the meditator at the highest peak of cosmic consciousness.

According to some, the kundalini or primal energy is the right vagous nerve that controls the nerve phlex of the autonomic nervous system. When thevital center in the medulla oblongata is stimulated, the functions of heart, lungs and larynx are inhibited. At the same time the functions of the stomach, intestine and digestive glands are accelerated.

The most authoritative interpretation postulates the kundalini as the nuclear energy of the psycho physical system. When awakened, this energy is simultaneously experienced as physical, vital, mental and spiritual. So in a sense it is immaterial whether it is described as the physio nuclear or bio nuclear or psycho nuclear or somato nuclear energy. It is the nuclear energy of the enormously complicated organized structure of man's existence, which we call the psycho physical system.

There are varying degrees of awakening of the coiled energy, which is the static pole and positive nucleus in relation to the rest of the bodily energies, which are dynamic. Whenever a person enters into the condition of immensely intensified consciousness due to his total concentration on an absorbing project, whether scientific, artistic, commercial or political, he feels the thrill and excitement of overflowing energy. What happens is the partial awakening of the coiled energy. His concentrated vital energy (prana), withdrawn from all other affairs of the world, puts pressure at the base of the spinal cord. The coiled energy reacts by re channeling the mobilized vital energy along the spinal cord toward the brain. This results in the flow of new creative ideas, or exciting new solutions to the problems concentrated on.

A greater measure of re channeling of energy from the outer to the upward direction takes place. If and when there comes a time when the coiled energy undergoes total conversion from the static to the dynamic form, the yogi attains what is called bodiless liberation. He leaves the body and becomes one with the vastness of cosmic Being.

Under the impact of their concentrated attack, the positive nuclear of the psycho physical system (kundalini), the apparently static positive pole of the body's magnetic field, sends forth an emanation or ejection, some kind of "etheric double," as theosophists call it, which shoots up like an electric current along the central canal of the spinal cord.

Under the impact of breath-control and intense concentration, the root center, like an electromagnetic machine, becomes over saturated. It then produces an inductive action, analogous to electromagnetic action, by which the mobilized dynamic energies operative in the body are converged along the axis. In this case there is no need to postulate the conversion of the static pole into its dynamic equivalent. The root center, like an over saturated electromagnetic machine, induces in the neighborhood an equivalent and opposite kind of electromagnetism without losing its own stock of energy.

Written By:-Diwakar Vashist

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Diwakar_Vashist

Kundalini Energy And Spiritual Enlightenment

The Kundalini Energy is the basic evolutionary force in every individual. It’s purpose is to drive us to reach for enlightenment. This energy lays coiled at the base of the spine until released, where the natural flow is then up the spine and out the top of the head, cleaning and refining the cells in the body as it goes and removing any energy blocks in its way. We all have a certain amount of this energy available to us at birth and throughout our life, but laying dormant, awaiting its release, is an abundance which we are able to consciously activate if desired, speeding up our evolution. A number of layers of the Kundalini energy are naturally released throughout a person’s lifetime, depending on the readiness and personal growth of the individual. This release happens without our knowledge, bringing us new spiritual awareness, psychic abilities, blissfull states and a general feeling of enlightenment.
Energy blocks throughout the body are caused by old emotional issues, stubborn attitudes and un-forgiveness, negative life experiences and poor posture. These energy blocks have a major influence on incorrect flow of this energy force. When the flow of Kundalini is blocked in its upward journey from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, it automatically restarts the upward motion, this time concentrating on the blocked areas as it goes. This process can cause physical and emotional problems and can take years to complete. For people who are unaware of this evolutionary force, the side effects of the Kundalini Energy can be mistaken for other physical problems.

The Kundalini cleansing can cause symptoms such as unexplained flu-like illnesses, chills or hot flushes mistaken for menopause, erratic behaviour, excessive mood swings, distortion or loss of memory, extremes in appearance – looking young one day and old the next, visual effects such as seeing lights or colours, geometric shapes or scenes from past lives or the future. It can create a feeling of losing control and with that feeling, the difficulty coping with everyday life. These overwhelming side effects of the Kundalini cleansing process can leave the individual confused and unsure of what it is they are wanting out of life, creating many marriage problems and being the catalyst to many a mid life crisis.

Involuntary release (where a person is not consciously trying to activate more Kundalini) can be caused by a variety of things such as a severe blow or injury to the tailbone, drug use, overwork, excessive fear, trauma, grief, excessive sex and even excessive meditation.

Voluntary release of more Kundalini energy can be achieved by a variety of visualisation, meditative and physical exercises.

To aid the Kundalini in it’s role of cleansing and refining the cells of the body and for our own comfort throughout this process, it is suggested that we do all we can in providing a clear path for the energy in it’s journey from the base of the spine upward and out the crown of the head. There are several things we can do to help with this process such as, clearing our chakras regularly of energy blocks via visualisation techniques, taking notice of and dealing with thoughts and feelings rather than continually blocking them out re-creating energy blocks, spend time in nature and take up a creative hobby. Nurture your body with nutritious foods free of preservatives and chemical additives and regular exercise during Kundalini cleansing is extremely important. Gain knowledge regarding this process so that you are aware of what is happening to your body and mind, know that this is an evolutionary process and enjoy the journey that is taking you one step closer to enlightenment.

Written By:-Lyn Nichols

Article Source:-http://www.isnare.com/?aid=257349&ca=Religion

* Balancing of emotions
* Strengthening of the nervous system
* Increases energy level
* Enlivens sense of awareness
* Encourages sense of peace
* Brings clarity to the mind
* Stress reduction
* Strengthens the immune system
* Increases lung capacity for better breathing
* Supports and encourages personal transformation and growth
* Orients consciousness to create happiness and health

Kundalini yoga is not only useful in strengthening the health and well-being of the physical body, but also very useful for emotional balance, stress relief, mental clarity, and personal transformation.

Written By: Ann Marier

Page Source: http://www.isnare.com/?aid=151816&ca=Wellness%2C+Fitness+and+Diet

Introduction to the Kundalini Yoga Seven Chakra System

What exactly are Chakras? How do they function? How can they be worked on? This article will look to answer these and other key questions regarding them, as well as give an overview of each of the Chakras that make up the Kundalini Yoga Seven Chakra System. Although, books can easily be written on this topic this document will concentrate on providing the most important aspects of this profound science.

Charkas are the center piece of the Yogic Energetic model of man. Chakra, which literally means wheel, is best thought of as a Multi-Dimensional Energy Vortex. By multi-dimensional I mean that a Chakra bridges across the many dimensions that make up a human being. According to Yoga there are 4 bodies that constitute a complete human being. These are the physical body, psychic or astral body, the mental body and finally the causal body. Chakras reside in the astral body, and serve as transformers to move energy between these various bodies.

The astral body can be thought of an etheric double of the physical body. Through it runs a vast complex of channels (nadis) that carry the energy of life (prana, chi or life-force). The quality and quantity of prana flowing through the nadis determines the health of the Chakras with reside there. The Chakras, as we mentioned are energy vortexes. They are opened and balanced by this flow of prana. The Chakras lie along the spine from the base to the top of the head and there are seven main Chakras. Each of these Chakras govern the physical region where they are situated and also, are responsible for certain emotional and personality traits. As they are properly activated and energized by the correct flow of prana, the corresponding physical regions are rejuvenated and emotions of a higher quality are embraced.

The seven Chakras and their main areas of influence, both physical and emotional are given below. The format is Chakra Name: Location: Primary Physical Influence: Primary Emotional/Personality Influences.

1. Mooladhara (Root) Chakra: Perineum: Excretory Systems: Physical Security & Fear

2. Swadhisthana (Sex) Chakra: Base of the Spine: Sexual Systems: Self-Expression & Creativity

3. Manipura (Naval) Chakra: Solar Plexus: Digestive Systems: Willpower & Anger

4. Anahata (Heart) Chakra: Center of the Chest: Circulatory and Respiratory Systems: Love

5. Vishuddhi (Throat) Chakra: Throat: Auditory and Speech Systems: Communication

6. Ajna (3rd Eye): Center of head, directly in line with center of forehead: Eyes & Perception: Intuition

7. Sahasrara (Crown): Top of Head: Brain and Nervous System: Bliss

Now that we know what Chakras are and what they do, lets see how we can work on them. The key to opening and balancing Chakras is by purifying the Nadis of blockages and increasing the flow of Prana. This is best done through the use of Yoga and Pranayama. Yoga, specifically Kundalini or Kriya Yoga, and Pranayama are the essentially the science of Chakra Activation. They are designed to systematically dissolve the debris that collects and blocks the flow of energy through the nadis. When the flow increases, the Chakras are opened and, over time, become optimally balanced. This leads to higher levels of awareness and consciousness -- which is to say that it leads to a human being achieving their highest potential.

Written By:-Anmol Mehta

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Anmol_Mehta
